Mid week Catch-up

Hello everyone,

It has been busy a week as all classes have covered quite a few topics here are the highlights.

Home Ec 8A/8B
We continue to work on Kitchen basics with a focus on kitchen tools and now recipes. We will be discussing measurements and kitchen math next week followed by a lab where we learn how to cut vegetables.

Home 9A/9B
We continue to discuss textiles and the fibres that make up textiles. We will be doing tie dye soon so be sure to pay your $15.00 fee to the office ASAP!

PAA 10
We have been busy doing theory work and sewing samples. It has been very busy and we have been moving fast as we will be starting our sewing projects the first week of October.

Foods 30
We have wrapped up a review of Kitchen Basics and we are now learning about Fruits and Vegetables. We will be doing some home canning over the next week and we will make freezer jam and salsa.

Math 8.
From Factors, squares and square roots we are proceeding to Pythagorean Theory. Basic what is the distance of the hypotenuse of a right triangle. It has been good practice to draw triangle and calculate the distances.

For students who need extra help in any of my classes I can be found most lunch hours in my home ec lab. I also help with the after school homework club and an usually in the library 3:30 to 4:30 open Tuesday's.

Mid-week Memory!

Hello folks,

We are mid-way through our second week of school and I have been so busy I ran out of time to write so here is the Coles notes version of the past few days of school.....

Home Ec 8A/8B
We have completed the introduction to foods and we are now working on learning the correct terminology for small kitchen tools. I hope to have a foods lab in the near future.

Home Ec 9A/9B
We have completed the laundry section of Textile Science and we are moving forward onto learning about Fibres, Yarns and Fabrics. Lots of new terminology to learn as it will affect us a as we become consumers of textiles.

PAA 10
We are cruising along and working on worksheets that are complimented by working the sewing machines and completing sewing samples that demonstrate the theory we are working on right now. Keep up the good attendance...but note that there are a few of you behind in your sewing samples.....you will need to dedicate a noon hour or two to catch up.

Foods 30
We are close to finishing up our Kitchen Basic Review and have a quiz on Friday. We will be completing the Fruits and Vegetable Unit along with Preserving(home canning and freezing) by the end of September.

Math 8
Factors, Square Roots, Squared and Multiplication Tables. Some of you have things memorized some of us still need some work...practice practice practice. Everyone has demonstrated a good effort in learning the work. Keep up the good work!

IN GENERAL!!!!
Some students need to work on attendance and not being late for class or you will loose out on important information. There will also be follow calls to home if the bad habits continue.

Early Dismissal

Hello folks,

It is early dismissal day and as we get ready for our staff meeting I realized I missed posting yesterday so this is a two for one post.

So for yesterday
10:00 to 11:00
Math 8A
Today we worked on looking at a number figuring out its factors and then graphing those factors. We then worked on having a number making as many perfect rectangle or squares on graph paper and how there is a relationship with the numbers factors.

11:15 to 12:15
Home Ec 9
In home economics we did the clothing care notes and did a review of clothing care labels as discussed in the class before. Students were also issued their text for the semester which will be used to complete vocabulary and worksheets.

1:05 to 2:05
What a fun class. Today we sewed some seam samples...a little more complex

2:15 to 3:15
Great Class today. We practiced our knife skills and cut onion, sweet peppers, tomatoes and grated cheese in preparation for our quesadilla lab on Friday.

Home Ec 8B
Today we discussed the importance of short and long term goals in relation to food and nutrition. We also introduced the importance of resources in food preparation. the students were assigned two worksheets to complete and hand in by the end of class. A few of you got alteast one done...next class you will need to hand the other one in completed.

10:00 to 11:00
Math 8A
Today we worked on perfect squares and square roots. We did the work first on graph paper, we made a connection to factors and at the end of the class we did some problem solving. We also demonstrated a TERRIFIC web site that help students learn their multiplication tables. As soon as I get the website address from Mr. Lambert I will post it! It is AWESOME!

Home Ec 8A
this was the first class for 8A and we reviewed the course outline and we discussed how home ec and all for the other subject areas in school are all related. We concluded the class by doing some introduction notes.

11:15 to 12:15
Home Ec 9B
We are into the swing of things as we dd a set of notes pertaining to clothing care and clothing labeling. Students then worked on definitions from chapter 14 & 15 from their textbook. There will be time given next class to finish the definitions and move onto a question sheet.

1:05 to 2:05
PAA 10B
Today we discussed the some terminology pertaining to stitching by machine. These terms will be important when we begin sewing our samples and then our project. Students then worked on worksheets handed out last Friday which are due at the start of class tomorrow. And yes tomorrow we will be sewing. Yeah!

2:15 to 3:15 pm
Foods 30
We learned about five more food words and their role in the kitchen. We then reviewed a two page handout that discussed cutting methods and types of knives. We then watched a video that demonstrated how to use a knife properly.

Day two of school was a good day and a welcome to a long weekend. We covered a lot of material and we move forward in the world of education...

Home Ec 8B
Welcome grade 8 students! Many of you have been patiently waiting to get to grade 8 so you can take my class and the time has finally arrived.
We reviewed the course outline for the semester and took a look at the KCI and teachers BLOGS...so enter your name into comments to win a gift certificate! We also discussed how the subject areas of Math, English, Science, Social and Health play an important role in Home Economics. The class concluded with a set of introduction notes.

10:00 to 11:00
Math 8A
We had a fun class working on factor trees and in your child's math journal they need to figure out the factors to five different numbers by next Wednesday...it is easy if you use a factor tree. If you get stuck remember my room is open at lunch for help.

11:15 to 12:15
Grade 9A
Like yesterday in grade 9B class we covered the course outline, talked about how to do laundry and started to discuss clothing labels. I look forward to continuing this topic next week.

PAA 10B
Today's review discussion focused on Lesson 9 in the clothing text and I showed students how to prepare fabric for sewing. Some things were a review other points were new. Three worksheets were handed out and need to be completed and handed in by Wednesday.

2:15 to 3:15
Food 30
Today were discussed now to measure ingredients and the importance of accuracy. We also practiced the finer points of accuracy with dry and liquid ingredients. Thank you to the students who participated in the hands on activity. We also reviewed abbreviations and completed a worksheet.

I wish all my students and enjoyable long weekend and will see you on Tuesday.

Welcome Back!

It was a great day that went very quickly....to recap the fun events here is a review of the day...

9:00 am to 10:00 am
Orientation...I am the homeroon teacher for grad 12B...
...issued out lockers...you have until the 9th to get a lock on your locker....
...handed out timetables and forms...you have two forms to hand in..get those into me ASAP...I would like to win the ice cream treats!
...discussed everyone having and agenda book...they will be enforced in use this year...
...talked about grad...which is Thursday June 28, 2012 @ 1 pm @ KCI...
...there is a grad meeting September 7 @ 12:30 in room 28...the grad committee will be picked!

Math 8A
...introductions were done....
...discussed the idea of math actually being fun and something you will need to know even when you leave school....
...handed out journals and wrote about a puzzle involving chickens and goats....tomorrow we will talk about the correct answer...
...refreshed our memories about math vocabulary and man you guys did a great job!
...oh and we reminded out brains a bout the math strategies...and yep you will also use those in the real world when you all grown up and leave home...
...thanks for a great class 8A I am looking forward to the year it is going to be fun.

Handed out the course outline and reviewed it...don't forget the contest!
Discussed what information we found on a clothing label, handed out the care label sheet, (exam information), talked out laundry and the rules we know or did not know about doing laundry...and for those of you who do not know how to iron we will be practicing sometime soon.
We will continue with laundry care next class.

What a great group...I am very excited as to what we will do this semester in this class.
We filled out a goal sheet and with an information card. And then as a review we worked on labeling a sewing machine and serger diagram. We will continue with the sewing review tomorrow and hopefully next week we will be sewing some samples.

Welcome grade twelves only ten more months to grad!
We completed a Foods 30 welcome back quiz that asked a variety of questions that will be either reviewed or learned new this year. We will continue with review on kitchen basics into next week and plan to cook as well.

It was a great first day back and hope that we all have a great semester.

Hello everyone...it is only twelve days and teachers will be back at school getting ready for the new school year.

I am very excited to be working with a grade 8 class in mathematics. It is amazing how important math is and how much we use math everyday...realize looking at the clock is math!!!

I hope everyone enjoys the last few weeks of holidays and I look forward to seeing everyone at KCI soon!
